Stockport St George’s CE Primary School Inspired by Prayer Week
Stockport St George's CE Primary School recently held a wonderful Prayer Week, offering children a variety of inspiring ways to connect with faith and reflection. The week provided a fantastic opportunity for students to explore prayer in both traditional and creative ways. The school wanted the children to have a deeper understanding of what prayer is, asking the big questions - Why do people pray? How do people pray? Moving forward we hoped that the children would be able to use prayer in their own way.
There was a focus on one of the most fundamental Christian prayers: The Lord's Prayer. The children delved into its meaning and structure, finishing in a creative activity where they were encouraged to write their own personal version of the prayer. They took part in the recent Faith in the North initiative, The Lord’s Prayer Collective Moment on the 10th October 2025, reciting the Lord’s prayer together with lots of schools across the North of England which was a very powerful experience.
This helped the children to understand the prayer's core themes while making the concepts relevant to their own lives.
Activities continued with a visit to St George's Church where the children followed an amazing prayer trail designed by Rev Jane. The team made sure the prayer trail was adapted to all the different ages of the children. This trail was a huge success, offering a thought-provoking journey that guided the children through different aspects of prayer and reflection within the beautiful setting of the church. It allowed the children to think, reflect and have fun all at the same time.
Another highlight of the week was the exploration of the Labyrinth, led by Chris Dawson. Walking the Labyrinth taught the children about the power of silence and the depth that can be found in simple words. It provided a unique, moving meditation that many of the children found profoundly inspiring.
A huge thank you goes out to the entire team—Rev Jane and her husband, Chris Dawson, and all the other volunteers—for their hard work in making Prayer Week such a success. We are so grateful for all their hard work, enthusiasm and kindness. The children were truly inspired by the opportunity to learn, reflect, and pray together.
