Gee Cross Holy Trinity: Writing Competition success

A local community group held a 500-word writing competition and all pupils, at local schools, were invited to enter. Many of our pupils were inspired to write and entered the competition. The focus for writing was titled 'My Gee Cross' and the children could write a fictional or factual short story. There were two age categories 7-9 years and 10-11 years.

We had pupils from Year 2 to Year 6 eagerly writing at home and in class. They were excited and motivated by the fact that the first prize was a letter of congratulations from Queen Camilla addressed to them personally. Some children chose to write fictional stories set locally.

One child was even inspired to write a fictional story based on true events written in the school log books dating back to when the school opened in 1888. Another child wrote passionately about life in Gee Cross and compared it to his aunt's life experiences of growing up in Syria.

As a whole school community, we were thrilled when the results were revealed. Our pupils had received 5 awards! In the age 7-9 category we had come 1st and 2nd place. In the 10-11year old category our pupils had come 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Proudly, we shared the news with our whole school through a special celebration assembly and invited family members and the press. The two children who had come in first place were delighted to receive their letters from Clarence House in which Queen Camilla had shared details of what she had enjoyed most about their wonderful writing.
