RE Day at Bishops’ Bluecoat High

Year 12 students at Bishop’s Blue Coat Sixth Form recently took part in a powerful and inspiring R.E. Day, centred around the message from Micah 6:8: “Act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.”

The day brought together a brilliant line-up of guest speakers whose interactive sessions challenged students to think deeply about justice, poverty, privilege, and the environment — all within the framework of Christian ethics and the call to live out faith in action.

The morning began with Ugo Eboh, who spoke passionately about standing up against injustice and being an active ally. His personal stories and open discussions encouraged students to reflect on how we treat others, the impact of our words, and how God calls us to honour and respect everyone—especially those who are different from us.

Ruth Bull then led a creative and thought-provoking session on poverty, showing how it’s more than just a lack of money. Using wool to visually map out the complex web of social and economic challenges, students saw just how easy it is to become trapped—and how important it is for Christians to stand with and advocate for those who are struggling.

The day ended with Revd Jill Elston, who turned the spotlight on the environment, focusing on fast fashion and its impact on our world. Her talk raised some tough questions about consumer habits and sustainability and our responsibilities as stewards of God’s creation but also left students feeling hopeful, reminding them that even small actions can help bring about change.

Throughout the day, the message was clear: living out our faith means caring for others and for creation. The sessions sparked real energy, thoughtful discussion, and a desire to make a difference.

Students left feeling inspired, challenged, and empowered to take action—and we hope the experience stays with them as they continue their journey, walking humbly and living justly with compassion and purpose.
