Schools’ Act of Worship for Bishop John Coleridge Patteson Day
Many of you will be aware of the special link that Chester Diocese has with the Anglican Communion of Melanesia. Some of our schools are pursuing active links with schools within the Melanesian diocese. It was early in the 19th century, that John Coleridge Patteson sought to take the Christian Gospel to these islands and the partnership across the Anglican communion began. He was martyred as he sought to share the love of God and advocate for justice in the area.
As we approach 20th September, the day the Church remembers Bishop John Coleridge Patteson, we are delighted to share a brand-new act of worship for primary schools. This resource has been created to both support our diocesan links and also to support our schools as they consider the global nature of Christianity within the worship life of the school.
Bishop Patteson, the first Bishop of Melanesia, is remembered not only for his missionary work but also for his deep respect for the people and cultures of the Pacific Islands. His legacy of faith, justice, and peace continues to inspire generations today.
This new act of worship is designed to help children explore his story and reflect on what it means to live out Christian values in today’s world. It includes:
✨ Prayers rooted in the life and witness of Bishop Patteson
💭 Reflections to encourage thoughtful discussion
🎨 Activities that bring his story to life in creative and engaging ways
We’re looking forward to hearing how you use this resource with your school community.
