RE Conference 2025: Exploring a Worldviews Approach - Introducing our Keynote Speakers

Thursday 22 May 8:45am to 3:45pm

Mere Court Hotel Nr Knutsford

Our annual Primary School RE Conference this year is Exploring a Worldviews Approach, offering an opportunity to give time and space to consider various science based worldviews. It provides a chance to expand subject knowledge while reflecting on their relevance and significance in teaching RE in schools.

The changes to religious education over recent years has embraced this worldviews approach. Moving the focus from solely the content to be taught, towards focusing on the framing of this information on the lived experience of adherents, both for institutionally organised, secular and personal worldviews. Engaging pupils to not only acquire information but to be interpreters of this information.

We are delighted to introduce our guest speakers who all bring lived experience and hold humanist and sentientist worldviews, and the compatibility of those who embrace both science and Christianity. They aim to inspire and deepen our understanding of different worldviews and enrich our subject knowledge.

Meet our Keynote Speakers

Jamie Woodhouse, Sentientism

Jamie is working to develop Sentientism as a modern worldview, based on some ancient ideas. It can be summarised in a sentence as “evidence, reason and compassion for all sentient beings”. While Sentientism’s core ideas are simple and intuitive, the worldview has radical implications for the way humanity lives today.

Bethan Fowler, Understanding Humanism

As Humanists UK’s education service,  Understanding Humanism aims to introduce young people to humanism as a non-religious approach to life which can be studied as an example of a ‘non-religious worldview’. Bethan manages their the educational programme and has a background in teaching in primary and secondary settings.

Abi Falkus,

God and The Big Bang

God and the Big Bang is an innovative education project run by Unlocking the Growth Trust. The project aims to demonstrate compatibility of science and faith and encourage students to discover some of life’s biggest questions. Abi has always loved exploring the deeper questions of both faith and science and loves encouraging curiosity in all those around her.

The conference takes place at the picturesque country house setting at Mere Court Hotel, near Knutsford. Conveniently located on the A50, Junction 9 exit on the M56; and between junction 19 & 20 on the M6.
