Chester Bishops’ Bluecoat CE High: A visit from the Archbishop of Canterbury

At the beginning of December, The Bishops’ Blue Coat CE High School was honoured to host a meeting The Archbishops’ Council in school, welcoming the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Archbishop of York, the Bishop of Chester, and over thirty delegates from various dioceses across the UK.

Following the formal proceedings of the day, students from Bishops’ engaged with delegates offering insights into the daily life of the school, their aspirations, and their post-school ambitions.

The school choir also had an opportunity to perform during lunchtime and a number of the delegates had a school tour with students.

Head Boy, Luke Gibson, said “Hosting the Council at our school was a surreal experience and sharing our aspirations with the Archbishop was unforgettable. Engaging with these influential figures made us feel heard and inspired. It's moments like these that make Bishops' a truly special place for students like me”.

Headteacher, Helen Cairns said “This visit not only marked a momentous occasion for our school but also served as a testament to the positive connection between faith, education, and community. As Headteacher, I am incredibly proud of the warm embrace our school community extended to our guests, and their demonstration of the spirit of inclusivity and excellence that defines our school”.

The Council expressed their appreciation for the warm hospitality and praised the spiritual development evident within the school, with one delegate commenting “something very special is happening here”.
